Millard Jefferson was born and reared in Franklin, Tennessee. He is a seventh generation
Williamson Countian. His parents were Vera and Fleming Jefferson. His Dad was a partner
with Ed Woodard in Franklin Plumbing and Heating Co. That business was opened in 1945. His
father retired in 1972. His mother was a house wife. Millard is their only child.
Millard graduated from Franklin High School in 1962.
While in Franklin High, he was a class mate with Cornelia
Garland. They did not date in High School but started dating after graduation. They were
married in 1965.
A few years out of high school, in 1964, Millard began working in sales for Bob Sewell, one of the noted
former Lions Club members, at the Sewell Electric Company. In 1983 Bob Sewell retired.
So Millard and Kelton Warren purchased the business. The two of
them then operated the business together until around 1988 or 1989 when Kelton died. Millard
continued in the business until very recently. He has just sold it, but is continuing to help the
buyers until they can find a replacement for him.
Connie and Millard have two children, Angie and Tim.
Angie is married to John David Ryan. She is a teacher of the second grade at BGA.
Her husband works for Home Lift Company, which installs home elevators. They have two
children, Allie and Mollie, pictured below. Allie is 14 and is a student at BGA. Mollie, age 11, is a 6th grader at
BGA.
Millard's son. Tim, is a securities agent with MetLife in Fayetteville, Tennessee. His wife, Kelly is a physician
at the Fayetteville Hospital. They have a daughter, Kathleen, who is three years old, also in the picture to the left.
Millard'says his "main hobby" is working in the yard. He has always worked and
has not spent much time on other hobbies or pastimes.
He joined the Lions about 1984 and has continued to be active since that time. He has held
several offices including the President. Millard says that he enjoys what the Lions do. In the
past several years he has collected used glasses for the club, and has just recently given that up
to Gary Rothacher. He is a past recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship, which is a
recognition of his commitment to humanitarian work.
In addition to the Lions Club, Millard has been active in the Masons and is a past master of
the Masonic Lodge. He is a long time member of the Chamber of Commerce and has served a
term as President of the Chamber. His family has also been active in the First Presbyterian
Church where he is ordained as an Elder. Millard's great grandfather was an elder in that
same church and was also the County Judge of Williamson County.
When asked what he would like for the Lions to know about him, Millard responded that he
would like you all to know that he is "coming back" as soon as his replacement is found.
Millard Jefferson has long been a faithful and active Lion. We will be very glad to have him
back.
